Bainville Girls Fight Off Cowgirls

The Bainville Bulldogs emerged with a 45-34 win over Culbertson in a District 2C girls’ basketball battle on Friday, Feb. 9.

The Bulldogs trailed 2522 at the half before scoring the first 10 points of the third quarter. Elsie Wilson hit a three-pointer to start the streak. A three-point play by Tally Berwick put Bainville up 31-25 midway into the period.

Culbertson battled back with the last five points of the quarter on baskets by Leandra Perkins and Destiny Thompson along with a free throw by Payton Labatte to cut the margin to 33-30.

A short jumper by Labatte closed the gap to 33-32 in the fourth quarter.

Two baskets by Hailey Berwick and a 17-footer by Brecklyn Pippenger put the Bulldogs ahead 39-32 with two minutes remaining.

After Mariana Burciaga scored for the Cowgirls, Bainville put the game away on a three-point play by H. Berwick and free throws by Wilson and T. Berwick.

Bainville’s top scorers were Miah Pippenger with 13, T. Berwick with 12 and H. Berwick with 10 points. Also scoring were Wilson with five and B. Pippenger with five.

Leading the Cowgirls were Burciaga with 14 and Ayden Ator with nine points. Also scoring were Perkins with six, Labatte with three and Thompson with two.
