Culbertson Students Becker Earns Title In School Spelling Bee
Eighth-grade student Felixe Becker emerged as the champion during Culbertson School’s spelling bee held Wednesday, Jan. 24.
The competition, featuring 27 students in grades fourth through eighth, went a total of 13 rounds. Becker’s winning word was thorax.
Defending school champion Anna Steppler, a seventh-grade student, fared well again and placed second in the contest. Her misspelled word was amphitheater. Also placing in the top five were fifth-grader Easton Steppler in third, fifth-grader Bode Cullinan in fourth and seventh- grader Lauren Rumsey in fifth.
Students qualifying for the school’s spelling bee were: Fourth grade: Huck Anderson, Harlee Steppler, Gauge Smith, Citlaly Burciaga and Weston Vallie.
Fifth grade (Vandall): Beau Becker, Muricio Red Dog, Bode Cullinan, Abby Sager and Jessa Bighorn.
Fifth grade (Iverson): Chayton Bowland, Parker Steppler, Easton Steppler, Howard Labuga and Rylee Lee.
Sixth grade: Aeryn Ator, Jaclynne Taberna, Lynn Bets His Medicine, Roman Emerson and Aubrey Lee.
Seventh grade: Gerald Happ, Sander Williams, Tyler White Cloud, Lauren Rumsey and Anna Steppler.
Eighth grade: Emilynn Powell, Felixe Becker, Jaden Iron Moccasin, Eli Turning Heart and Chris Kauten.
The top five students qualified for the Roosevelt County bee.
