CHS Speech, Drama Competes At State CHS Speech, Drama Competes At State

The end of the speech and drama season produces mixed feelings for Culbertson coach Jeri Gustafson. “The last weekend in January is always bittersweet for all speech, drama and debate teams as the season culminates with the state tournament.”

A total of 323 students from 48 schools took part in the 2024 B/C State Tournament. Six students represented CHS: Samantha Annett, Florian Budurean, Logan Berwick, Jaxon Flinn, Harrison Green and Colt’n Rees. According to Gustafson, they participated in two long, stress-filled days of competition.

Each participant was guaranteed four rounds. Those making the cut advanced to semi-finals and finals. “Our Culbertson team fared well,” said Gustafson. “with three competitors advancing out of the preliminary rounds.”

At the end of competition, Samantha Annett placed third in memorized public address. Harrison Green placed sixth in informative speaking. Colt’n Rees placed ninth in MPA. Florian Budurean placed 14th in humorous oral interpretation. Jaxon Flinn came in 17th in informative and Logan Berwick placed 17th in HOI.
