The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office recently awarded its top employees for 2023 during a presentation of plaques.

Sheriff Jason Frederick started making the selections an annual event last year.

The recipients will have their names placed on a permanent plaque in the office’s lobby.

CJ Colon was the winner of the Deputy of the Year honor. Earlier this year, Colon was presented a Valor Award from the Montana Sheriff’s and Peace Officers Association.

Colon responded to an explosion from a propane leak at a home in Poplar on Jan. 12, 2023. Upon arriving on the scene, he rescued a 17-year-old male and took him to his patrol car. When the teen noted that his 82-year-old grandmother and 7-year-old cousin were still trapped, Colon risked injury by providing comfort to the grandmother and lifting the boy out of the debris and into the warmth of a patrol car.

Caleb Pendleton was the recipient for the Detention Officer of the year.

Pendleton has worked in detention since November of 2021.

“He’s totally loyal and gives his all,” Debra Collins, jail supervisor, said.

Catherine Dickey was selected as the Dispatcher of the Year.

Dickey has worked in dispatch for 18 years.

“I like being able to help people,” Dickey said. “I really do.”
