The schools have been open even though it was -28 degrees with a -45 wind chill. The North Country basketball games that were to be here at Lustre were postponed. It is a mighty good time to stay home, count your blessings and spend time with family. Thursday it was -15 with a -26 windchill at 3 p.m.

Lustre Grade School head teacher John Dubois announced the local spelling bee will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the school. The County Spelling Bee is Feb. 21.

An awards ceremony was held at 2 p.m. Jan. 5 at Lustre Grade School. K-8th graders received miscellaneous awards such as citizenship, improved and perfect attendance.

The Lustre Lego League will be going to Billings next Saturday to compete in the Montana State Qualifier on Jan. 20.

Kencia Brown made the basket of the night, shooting from the opposing team’s free-throw line at the buzzer ending the third quarter of play. It was against Circle in an away game last weekend. Though LCHS lost 52-46, the team kept chipping away at Circle’s lead, though seniors Alex Reddig and Grace Brown had fouled out. At one point, the team was within two points near the end of the fourth quarter. The LCHS boys won their game against Circle.
