Oaths Of Office Taken At Council

By James Walling

Culbertson council members Abe Rumsey and Carl Donaldson and Mayor Todd Gabriel were sworn in by clerk Terri Merrill at the Dec. 11 regular meeting. Rumsey represents Ward 1 and Donaldson is located in Ward II.

Jan, Fred and Della Wix attended the meeting in hopes of gaining approval to donate a new convection oven to the Culbertson Senior Citizens group for lunches and meal preparation. Council members thanked the Wix family and approved the upgrade. The council discussed a priority list of projects targeted for funding made available by the passage of House Bill 355. Current ideas for the approximately $70,000 in funding include new or improved street lights along Broadway Avenue and new flooring and windows for the town office. The list is open to additions through the end of the year.

Bainville’s Lyle Lambert attended the meeting to encourage the council to purchase the Midwest Assistance Program-GIS Map/Lead & Copper Inventory Assistance program, which would streamline public works functionality and bring the town up to date on lead and copper pipe inventory. The towns of Bainville and Froid are currently participating in the program. The council asked for a representative to attend a public meeting to discuss the details of the program.

The route for the Dec. 18 parade of lights was approved by the council. It will follow the traditional route from Culbertson School down Broadway Avenue. The parade is set to begin around 7:30 p.m.

The next regular council meeting is set for Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
