Speech, Drama Takes Off In Frazer

Speech, Drama Takes Off In Frazer Speech, Drama Takes Off In Frazer

Frazer High School students are experiencing something new this year. The Bearcubs are participating in speech and drama competitions.

Advisor Mary Zuchowski explains she used to coach speech and drama in Poplar. When she came to Frazer, she wanted Frazer’s students to have the opportunity of being on a speech and drama team.

During COVID, Frazer had students compete virtually. Two years ago, there was only one student in the program and then there wasn’t interest last year.

Zuchowski is pleased that this year’s team features seven students.

“I love it,” the teacher said. “I love that the kids are experiencing something new.”

The team’s highlight so far has been coming away with first place in Class C Sweeps during the meet held at Hays Lodge Pole.

Leading the way to victory were Dallas Blount with a first, Ryan Beston with a second and Kalianna Blount with a third in dramatic oral interpretation. Marick Old Person placed third and De’mon Grandchamp took fourth in spontaneous oral interpretation. Tokoa Old Person earned third in humorous oral interpretation. Chase Jackson also competes in spontaneous oral interpretation for the Bearcubs.

“They have a lot of untapped potential,” Zuchowski said. “My goal is to keep them interested.”

The team is working toward the Class C divisional meet in Culbertson on Jan. 19.

“It’s always fun,” Zuchowski said of the season. “We’re having a ball.”
