Bainville Girls Return Majority Of Solid Squad

The Bainville Bulldogs return 11 of last season’s 12 varsity players for this girls’ basketball campaign.

Starters back for Bainville include Brecklyn Pippenger, Elsie Wilson, Tally Berwick, Miah Pippenger and Hailey Berwick. Kendra Romo was usually the first person off of the team’s bench.

Wilson earned All-Conference honors and H. Berwick was a second team selection last season.

Seniors on Bainville’s squad are B. Pippenger, Kendra Romo and Kaelyn Romo.

Juniors are T. Berwick, M. Pippenger and Wilson. Sophomores are H. Berwick, Addison Hansen, Chandi Johnson and Lila Butikofer. Freshmen are Johnna Ryder and Kalli Harmon.

Lance Berndt is serving as the squad’s new head coach. Berndt is a 2005 graduate of Bainville High School.

“I can definitely sense some excitement among the girls and know they have the dedication to put in the time to improve each and every day,” Berndt said.

The District 2C conference is anticipated to be very competitive this season. Plentywood is the defending conference champion.

“For me, the favorite is usually the defending champ until proven otherwise. There were 12 seniors among the teams who qualified for divisionals last season, so there’s going to be a lot of new faces,” Berndt said. “Plentywood is still the top dog until someone proves otherwise.”

The Bulldogs will open their season at a tournament in Glasgow by playing Plevna at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, Turner at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2.

“My coaching philosophy is built upon the principle of focused intent. With everything we do, each and every day, we do it with the intent of performing that given action so that growth can be achieved most effectively,” Berndt said. “Come ready to work each day with that mindset, and good things will surely come.”

Bainville sees its first home action against Savage on Saturday, Dec. 16.
