Defendants Receive Sentences In District Court

Several individuals were sentenced during hearings held in district court on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

James Trevor Brown changed his plea to guilty for fourth or subsequent DUI and had his criminal endangerment charged reduced to negligent endangerment.

During the hearing, Brown admitted that on June 15, 2023, he was intoxicated and didn’t stop when law enforcement tried to pull him over.

As part of a joint plea agreement, Brown received an 18-month suspended sentenced with the Department of Corrections for treatment to be followed with a fiveyear suspended sentence with Montana State Prison.

David Dean Winn made a guilty plea for negligent endangerment and a no contest plea to fleeing or eluding a peace officer.

Winn admitted to driving an older vehicle with faulty headlights that potentially put other people at risk. Based on a joint plea agreement, Winn received a deferred sentence of seven months and was fined $1,000.

Joshua Kyle Burks received a suspended sentence of five years with the Department of Corrections and was fined $1,000.

Burks was facing the charges of criminal possession of dangerous drugs, meth, and criminal possession of dangerous drugs, anabolic steroids.

Darius Preston Romero of Colorado changed his pleas to guilty for the charges of illegal possession of dangerous drugs, operating a vehicle without a license and being in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Based on a joint plea agreement, Romero’s sentence was deferred for three years. He was fined a total of $1,400.

The trial date for Joseph Dale William Miller was moved to Feb. 15, 2024. Miller is facing 10 charges, including five felonies, in district court.

Felony charges, which were filed on Thursday, May 11, includes two counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs, a count of criminal possession with intent to distribute, assault on a peace officer and use or possession of property subject to criminal forfeiture. The trial is anticipated to take three days.
