School Board Approve Hirings During Meeting
The Wolf Point School board approved several hirings during its meeting held on Monday, Sept. 11.
Hired were Beverly Corne as Southside special education paraprofessional, Sen Pin Andrew Vun as school psychologist, David Perkins and Marianne Zilkoski Rees as bus drivers, Leslie Larson as food pantry coordinator and Agboola Aliu as junior high/high school after school tutor.
Extracurricular hires included Robert Page as head high school track coach, Eric Peterson as assistant track coach, Dan Horsmon as head high school tennis coach, Nicole Paulson as assistant tennis coach, Rodney Paulson as head high school golf coach and Caleb Pendleton as junior high wrestling coach.
Trustees accepted the resignation of Tressa Welch as junior high/high school Native American studies teacher.
High School principal Kim Hanks reported the enrollment at the school is 225 with 78 freshmen, 56 sophomores, 46 juniors and 45 seniors. There is a number of students returning to school that have not been enrolled in several years. There is a high amount of students who are currently off track for graduation. School officials have met with these students to help create schedules with the hope of getting them refocused.
Homecoming and Native American Week are scheduled for Sept. 25-30.
Northside orincipal Georgie Gourneau reported that the school will be rolling out a model for academic, behavior and emotional standards. Northside students will participate in a book blast activity with an opportunity to take home 10 or more books. Enrollment at Northside is 170 students.
Southside principal Tara Thomas said the after-school program will feature activities involving Fort Peck Tribes, Roosevelt County Library, HPDP, a book club, STEM, basketball skills and dance/cheerleading.
Thomas said student support team meetings are being held to assist students and families with navigating elementary school. Interventions will be scheduled for students who are not working at grade level.
Enrollment at Southside is 236 students. All grades are having an attendance percentage of at least 85 percent so far this school year.
