Individuals Sentenced In District Court

Three individuals were sentenced during hearings in district court on Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Paul Douglas Nygaard was sentenced for criminal distribution of dangerous drugs, fentanyl, by accountability. A second count was dismissed.

Based on a plea agreement, Nygaard received a threeyear deferred sentence and was fined $1,000.

“Take advantage of the deferred deal,” District Judge David Cybulski said.

The judge advised Nygaard to contact his probation officer if he faces any trouble or any potential trouble.

Chelsey Renae Nelson changed her plea to guilty for driving under the influence as part of the terms of a plea agreement.

Nelson admitted that her driving was hampered due to intoxicants while driving in Bainville.

Nelson received a fivemonth suspended sentence and was fined $900. For the fine, as much as $150 can come as donations to a food pantry.

Melita Danel Mitchell changed her plea to guilty for driving without a valid license, obstructing a peace officer and driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle. The remaining charges were dismissed.

Based on a plea agreement, the sentence included a $200 fine for driving without a valid license, a $300 fine and a five-month suspended sentence for obstructing a peace officer and a $1,200 fine and six-month suspended sentence for driving under the influence.

In addition, Darius Preston Romero made not guilty pleas to the charges of possession of dangerous drugs, driving without a valid license, not wearing a seat belt, careless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.

An omnibus hearing was scheduled for Oct. 24. A trial was set for Jan. 11, 2024.
