Schools In Need Of Subs, Paraprofessionals
As the new academic year begins for Wolf Point schools, two large needs for the Wolf Point School District are additional substitute teachers and paraprofessionals.
Kim Hanks, principal at Wolf Point High School, explained that each school seeks dependable substitute teachers. “Once the school year gets going, you could potentially work every day if there’s a need,” Hanks said.
She notes that the schedule for substitute teachers is very flexible. The individual could work for a couple of days or weeks straight and then take a vacation or a break.
Substitute teachers can also state their preference of which age group that they wish to work with.
Paraprofessionals, meanwhile, are full-time positions. They work directly with students and assist teachers.
During last week’s school board meeting, principal Tara Thomas said Southside Elementary School has seven paraprofessionals at this point.
She said the number is better than a year ago, but additional paraprofessionals are needed to provide.
Hanks said each school is seeking more paraprofessionals.
