Bearcubs Prepare For Cross County Season
The Frazer Bearcubs enter the cross country season with the hope that more athletes try the sport.
During the first practice week of the season, senior Joseph Beston was the lone runner on the high school squad.
“We have some thinkers,” Frazer Coach Cody Larson said about students considering joining the team.
Beston is a returning letterwinner for the Bearcubs.
He notes that part of the reason he’s on the team is to remain in good physical condition.
“I want to qualify for state,” the senior added.
Since the school year began, Beston has been joined by Travis Long, Jarvis Good Bird, Ty Fourstar, Cassius Smoker and Christopher Fox.
High school girls out for the sport are Isabelle Even and Shakira Beston.
The Bearcubs will open their season at the Wolf Point Invitational on Friday, Aug. 25.
“We’re hoping to have a couple of state qualifiers, get some more out and have some fun,” Larson said.
He said the new Montana High School Association that an athlete needs only eight practices prior to competing will help the Bearcubs.
Also coaching the squad is Tessa Beston. “We’re lucky to have her,” Larson said.
BriAnna Beston, a seventh- grade girl, is competing for the junior high team.
A highlight of the season will be the Frazer Invitational on Sept. 21.
