Froid/Lake’s Mason Dethman has informed the Montana State University football program that he has decided to take his athletic talents to Bozeman.

Dethman, a three-year All-State performer for the Red Hawks, is excited about the opportunity.

“The culture, the people and the coaches were a big part of it,” Dethman said of his decision. “It just felt right.”

Another positive factor was knowing several of the current Bobcats including Hunter Sharbono of Fairview, Brody Grebe, Bryce Grebe and Sean Chambers. Brody Grebe dates Dethman’s oldest sister, MacKenzie, but Mason laughs that there wasn’t any family pressure to become a Bobcat because of that relationship.

“She wanted what’s best for me,” Mason said.

Dethman has played quarterback and linebacker/safety during his high school career, which has included two sixman state championships. He expects to play linebacker for the Bobcats. He plans to major in agriculture business.

Although he has also been a basketball standout, Dethman says football is his true love.

“I like how physical the game is and how fast-paced,” he said.

Dethman, who is currently 6-5 and 195 pounds, has been spending a lot of time in the weight room this summer. He hopes to continue improving.

“I personally need to get faster and smarter about football,” Dethman said. “There’s always things to improve in.”

He is looking forward to another successful high school football season. He said he’s excited about being a senior leader for the Red Hawks.

“I think we will be pretty good,” he said. He wants another deep playoff run. “That’s always the goal.”
