Lightning Causes Grass Fires Around Poplar
Thunderstorms kept the Poplar Volunteer Fire Department busy this weekend. The department responded to three grass fires Sunday, July 30.
The department was paged out at 3:25 p.m. to a grass fire off of BIA Route One west of town.
At 3:29 p.m. they were paged out to two other grass fires one off of Red Thunder Road west of town and another north of town four miles off of Washboard Road. All fires were started by lightning. Four engines responded with additional support from three BIA engines, said PVFD.
A department spokesperson said, “All fires were mostly extinguished by the rain. We were paged out for the three fires. The fire up by Washboards was only two acre. The one on BIA Route One was 0.818 acres and the one off of Red Thunder Road was 0.07 acres.”
