Golf, Cornhole Events To Benefit Individuals

Cornhole and hole-in-one tournaments are being planned in Culbertson to assist three area individuals who are battling medical challenges.

Kara Halvorson, one of the event’s organizers, said the hope is to have nearby communities come together in order to help the individuals with health care costs. The individuals include Peter Portra Jr., Bainville, who had open heart surgery; Avrie Norland, Froid, who battles with spina bifida; and Norma Petersen, Culbertson, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. The Boondocks hole-in-one event encourages golfers to attempt to hit a hole in one anytime between 5-8 p.m. on July 17-21. The hole is located one mile east of United Grain, turn south on the bypass off Highway 16. The course will be marked with flags.

Halvorson explains her husband is a “golf fanatic” and they mowed out a section of land for him to practice his driving. The couple decided to use the area for this special fundraiser.

Different colored balls are selected for each of the three charity causes. If golfers get the ball in the target circle around the flag, they qualify for the hole in one event to be held on Saturday, July 22, and a chance to win a cash prize. There is a separate hole for youth 12 years and under.

The cornhole tournament on Saturday, July 22, will start at noon at Culbertson Parks. Organizers will pair individuals on two-person teams.

Norlands will have their food truck available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

To sign-up for the cornhole tournament, call Tess at 406-787-7134, or register at the gate.

“It’s all for fun,” Halvorson said of the events.
