The all-volunteer Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede Committee features a good variety of experience along with fairly new members.

Committee members with the longest term of service include Don Whitmus with 57 years, Jack Stensland with 49 years, Christy Stensland with 38 years, Dave Matejovsky with 21 years and JD Stensland with 15 years.

Other committee members include Scott Keen with six years of service, Kay Matejovsky with four years, Nicole Paulson with four years, Rodney Paulson with four years, Erica Reid with one year and Kate Reid-Gorder with one year.

“We are grateful to all past committee members who served throughout the years,” committee members said.

One of those long-time committee members was Paul Sievers. He was a 29-year volunteer of the Wild Horse Stampede. He was an invaluable member of the committee — he always packed a positive personality to match that “go-forward” attitude. His contributions were endless and uncountable.

Sievers commented numerous times on his first duty — handing out promotional Stampede logo Window Scrapers at the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals — which he lightheartedly felt as if it was his initiation to the committee. He was honored as the Justin Committeeman of the Year and the Stampede “Dirt Man” when the committee received the National WPRA Best Dirt Award.

Sievers was never one to say no or I’m too busy in all the years he served. When a job needed to be done — he just simply found a way. He was respected and admired by everyone on the committee and deeply appreciated in this community.
