Deputy Hired For East End

The eastern end of Roosevelt County has a new deputy for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office.

County commissioners approved the transfer of John Benavente from the detention center to the sheriff office during last week’s meeting.

He started in the deputy position on Monday, May 1.

Sheriff Jason Frederick explained to commissioners that Benavente completed the police academy through the tribes. He later went to work for the detention center.

Frederick said that Benavente will move to the east end of Roosevelt County.

In other business during the meeting on Tuesday, April 25, commissioners approved the purchase of 10,000 tons of gravel from Prince Inc. of Forsyth for the Parenteau pit west of Froid. Total cost is $50,000.

Commissioners approved a pay increase for sheriff’s office employee Elizaveta Moore. The resignation from health department employee Bonnie Wemmer was accepted.

Scott Doornek was hired as a fulltime seasonal employee to the road department.
