Flood Advisories West Of County Line

The National Weather Service in Glasgow issued a flood advisory along the Milk River Valley past the confluence with the Missouri to the Oswego area April 16.

Whatley Road was closed near Glasgow as of press time Tuesday, April 18.

NWSG lead forecaster Richard Maliawaco told the Northern Plains Independent

that an incoming low pressure storm system with rain and snow will extend conditions for river warnings and possible advisories.

“Gauges are going down,” Maliawaco said. “But snow melt and flood conditions will be prolonged.”

The storm system, which Maliawaco described as slow moving, is expected to begin across the region late Tuesday with rain turning to snow near the border and in the higher elevations. As much as an inch of water is expected to fall over Wednesday and Thursday. Precipitation should taper off on Friday.

“There is a silver lining to all this,” Maliawaco said.

He described warmer, dryer weather generally moving into the area next week and into the month.

“We’re turning the corner,” he said.
