Commissioners Approve Public Hearings For Roads

Roosevelt County commissioners approved during their weekly meeting to conduct a public hearing regarding abandoning Road 2058.

The meeting to hear input has been scheduled for March 7 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the county building in Culbertson. Commissioners will make their decision on a later date.

Landowner Lynn Labatte is requesting that the road is ruled abandoned.

During a meeting in late January, residents said that there was a petition to abandon the road in 2007, but the request wasn’t approved at that time. Landowners said a gate has blocked off the road for about 15-17 years without any legal documents required. Commissioners also called for a public hearing to discuss accepting roads to become public roads on Feb. 27, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Froid Community Center.

The roads, located in the Froid area, will include 1007, 2043, 1009, 1011, 1012, 1013, 1015, 1017, 1018, 1020, 1019, 1018, 2042, 2043, 2044, 2045, 2046 and 1012.

During the meeting, commissioners ordered the cancellation of real property taxes that have been delinquent for five years or more.

Commissioners approved a bid of $120,777 from Lane Enterprises for a box culvert project on Road 2051. Officials noted that the bid is for product. The product must be delivered by May 1. The bidding process for insulation will take place later.

Laura Krauth, president of the Friends of the Library, talked about improvement projects in the basement of the library and requested funds for materials. Commissioners said there are funds available in the budget, but they asked Krauth to submit a proposal with the funding amounts needed.

The resignation of William Charbonneau for the sheriff’s office was accepted.

Receiving pay raises were detention center employees Keelia Brock, Elise Akers and John Benavente along with attorney office employee Erika Fyfe,
