Explosion In Poplar Explosion In Poplar

The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office reports that at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan, 12, three deputies and several other first responders from the Fort Peck Tribes, the Poplar Volunteer Fire Department and Roosevelt County DES responded to a gas explosion at an occupied residence in Poplar. At great risk to themselves, the deputies, officers and firemen were able to pull three people from the burning structure. The victims were flown out for medical care due to the severity of their injuries. Sheriff Jason Frederick said, “I would like to commend my deputies for going above and beyond the call of duty in their response to this incident.” The cause of the explosion is under investigation, but it is suspected to be the result of a gas leak inside the home. Wolf Point High School announces that for its home basketball games against Poplar on Friday, Jan. 20, there will be fundraisers (Chinese auction, bake sale and 50/50) for the Poplar family of Louise Ell, Quinn Sutherland and Colter Beauchamp, who were injured when their house exploded.
