Kallem joins Roosevelt Medical Center
By Bill Vander Weele
Roosevelt Medical Center welcomes Nick Kallem as the new Emergency Medical Services director. Kallem will also serve as the facility’s trauma and disaster preparedness coordinator.
As director for EMS, he will lead a volunteer department of 20 staff members. As the trauma coordinator, he will develop, maintain and continually enhance the trauma system at Roosevelt Medical Center. As the disaster preparedness coordinator, he will plan for disasters and manage responses when they occur.
While this will be his first management role specific to EMS, Kallem served as a lead EMT at his previous employer and has served as the walk chair for the American Society for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walk for the last six years.
As a certified instructor, he will be able to teach courses for first responders up to the advanced level and is working on recertifying in pre-hospital trauma life support instruction.
Prior to joining RMC, Kallem spent the last seven years working at Sidney Health Center in it’s EMS department. He has been an EMT since 2010.
Kallem said his passion for helping others began when he was a freshman in high school, working as a lifeguard. His mother, a nurse, also inspired his pursuit of a career in health care.
“I am passionate about the importance of having emergency medical services in our area. I love serving my community and helping people during their worst times,” he said.
Currently, he is working toward obtaining his bachelor’s degree in disaster and emergency management from American Public University System College. He is set to graduate this summer.
“I am excited for this new opportunity. I am looking forward to getting to know the community and sharing my enthusiasm of caring for others,” he said.
Kallem replaced Teresia Moore, who has served on EMS for 30 years. Moore is retiring but will stay on as a consultant for RMC to ensure a seamless transition for the department.
