Veterans of the Bainville area were honored with a salute from the entire school during a program on Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11.

“Although we recognize them today, they are heroes every day,” Bainville superintendent of schools Darin Hannum said during the program.

Veterans were presented gifts, including wind chimes made by Bainville High School’s BPA students. Veterans introduced themselves and provided a brief history of their service.

With the area veterans standing near the stage, sixth-grade students sang We Honor You, directly to the veterans.

A wall display featuring photos of the veterans greeted visitors to the school. The display was created by the classes of Dave Powell and David Wheeler.

BPA students provided a slideshow with photos of Bainville area veterans throughout the years.

The ceremony opened with preschool students carrying small flags and walking around the gym to the song Grand Ol’ Flag.

Kindergarten students led audience members in the Pledge of Alliance.

Seventh-grade students presented the flags.

Classes singing songs included first grade, second grade and the 7-12 choir. Fifth-grade students provided a tribute to the Armed Forces with songs from each of the military branches.

Reading patriotic poems were high school seniors and the fourth grade.

Cross training class members provided a video of their tribute workout.
