The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, the Gallatin County Coroner’s Office and the Montana Highway Patrol are investigating a two-vehicle fatality that occurred near I-90 at mile marker 293 on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 27.

Madalynn Raab, 25, of Culbertson, died in the accident.

According to reports, Raab was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane and collided with another vehicle traveling east. The drivers of both vehicles were declared dead at the scene.

The driver traveling east was identified as 18-year-old Brielle Papavero of Billings.

Raab’s current place of residence was listed as Bozeman.

The cause of death for both was determined to be blunt force injuries and the manner was ruled accidental.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Gray said there were multiple 911 calls about the wrong-way driver, but it’s unclear why she was driving the wrong-way.

Both drugs and alcohol, on her part, are suspected to be factors in the crash, he said. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, he said.
