Some of Wolf Point’s elementary students became part of history when they took part in a beam signing on Monday, May 2. The beam is heading to schools around the state before being part of the new Montana Heritage Center in Helena.

Construction for the new Montana Heritage Center is anticipated to be complete in 2024.

A preliminary concept for the Montana Heritage Center was developed in 2010, but in 2020 officials restarted the design process from the beginning.

According to the project’s website, “The Montana Heritage Center will capture the grandeur of the Treasure State by celebrating the natural features, diverse cultures, and stories of our past. After years of hard work, consensus building, and careful design, the new home for the Montana Historical Society will include expanded museum exhibits, educational classrooms and a public event center, an enhanced research center, plus an outdoor courtyard and rooftop terrace.”

Other school stops for the beam signing have included Billings, Hardin, Livingston, Butte, Bonner, Polson, Boulder, Glasgow, Shelby, Browning, Cascade and Helena.
