High School Students Receive Info About Community College


Wolf Point High School students and their parents were informed of higher educational opportunities during an informative session at the school on Tuesday night, April 19.
The early college and dual credit seminar was presented by Wolf Point High School in partnership with the Fort Peck Community College.
“We want the students to understand what’s all available to them for the summer,” guidance counselor Erin Loendorf said.
She added that topics that some students have expressed interest in have included algebra, star quilt techniques and introduction to business.
Representing the Wolf Point School District at the meeting were high school principal Kim Hanks and Loendorf. Representatives from Fort Peck Community College included interim vice president Carrie Schumacher, registrar Michelle Dey and information specialist Leigh Melbourne.
Prizes were awarded through a grant from the American Indian College Fund’s pathway program.
Courses offered include comput- erized accounting, personal finance, introduction to business, foundation of business ethics, business law, writing the business plan, principles of living systems, basic Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, introduction to public speaking, computer fluency, human relations, Montana history, introduction to literature, college algebra, introduction to Native American studies, drugs and society, college writing, advanced college writing, beginning yoga, star quilt techniques, CNA training, introduction to public speaking, introduction to video, college writing, introduction to sociology, college algebra, advanced college writing and introduction to psychology.
Dual credit courses with Fort Peck Community College include public speaking, college composition, Microsoft Office, personal finance, anatomy and physiology with lab, ag welding 1 and 2, statistics and calculus.
