Pastor Frank Lenihan of the Lustre MB Church spoke at the Good Friday Services held at the Lustre EMB Church to a crowd of around 100 people. He spoke of how traditions hold a people together in stressful times, such as Tevia sang about in “Fiddler on the Roof.” The traditions of Easter that we take for granted were new to him until he was 22. He noted that 15th of Nissan and April 15 Good Friday fell on the same day this year. He taught how important it was for the Jewish folk to clean their homes of yeast and why, and read attendees I Cor 5:7 to show us how it relates to our church life today. The seriousness of searching one’s heart before participating in a communion service was evident in his teaching from I Cor. 11, Isaiah 44 and Psalms 139. Music was brought by Mindy and Landon Olfert. The community shared a communion service led by the men of the EMB. For years, it has been a tradition in Lustre for the churches to share this day’s services.

Lustre families welcomed college students home and family with tiny grandchildren for visits on this Easter weekend. Because of the snowstorm, travel plans were interrupted so that those traveling on Thursday may have had treacherous roads. Parents of Lustre Christian High School seniors were thankful when they finally were able to make it home from their senior-trip to Minneapolis, Minn., accompanied by class sponsors, Al and Connie Leland.

The children’s Easter egg hunt was canceled due to the weather. I am told by old timers that snow on Easter will bring six more weeks of precipitation. And we are thankful for new snow on Easter morning. There was much rejoicing in the morning services. Pastor Button spoke on the eight visitors to the empty tomb and the evidences they found.

What classic cars have you driven? This is Pastor Lenihan’s question as he began his Easter sermon. He spoke on the oldest Psalm (90) and John 20 answering questions about death and what change in that, the resurrection of Jesus made. The sermon can be heard on the MB church’s website: lustremb.org and it will encourage those who have lost a loved one in recent years.

A piano recital will be April 24 at 4:15 p.m. in the LCHS assembly room.

A community picnic at the LCHS baseball field on May 8 is set for 1 p.m. honoring Michael Butler and Al and Connie Leland.
