Wallette Seeks House Position

Kaci Wallette has filed as a Democratic candidate to become the representative of House District 31.
“The Indian Caucus reached out and asked me to run for office,” Wallette explained her decision.
Incumbent Frank J. Smith, a Democrat, has also filed for the position. Arlie W. Gordon of Fort Peck has filed on the Republican ticket.
Wallette served for four years on the tribal council. She holds a degree in nursing.
“There are some major bills coming up related to health care,” Wallette said. “Medicaid expansion is always on the chopping block.”
Having access to mental health care is also an area that needs to be approved.

“I think everybody should have the right to voting access,” she said. “If you live in Fort Kipp, you shouldn’t have to go to Wolf Point and vote.”
Other issues that she mentioned included hunting rights and firearms. She supports the right to bear arms.
She considers herself an advocate for education and wants more funding avenues to help pay teachers.
Wallette also seeks to improve the economy and help small businesses.
She feels she can work with Republicans to improve Montana.
“I’m a staunch supporter of working across party lines so all Montanans benefit,” she said.
