They brought home the gold for Wolf Point High School.

Daniel Sears, a senior, and Del Eymard, a sophomore, claimed first place at the recent Class B speech and drama meet in the category of humorous theater.

They felt that their best performance of the season came during the finals round at the state meet. Their performance featured variations of Hansel and Gretal.

“We got way more funny as the year went on,” Eymard said.

Sears and Eymard were optimistic heading into the state meet after earning first place at the divisional level.

“I was confident we were going to place high at least,” Sears said. “But I didn’t expect to take first.”

The announcement of each team’s placing from eighth on down was an exciting time for the Wolves and other on-lookers.

“The moment kind of hit when they said second place and it wasn’t us,” Sears said. “The gym erupted. It’s one of the benefits of being social.”

Eymard added, “So many people were excited.”

Sears said he enjoyed this year’s title even more than last year’s individual championship in spontaneous oral interpretation. Part of the reason was that this year’s event was live rather than being held remotely.

“It’s a lot more fun being in person,” Sears said.

Working with a teammate was also beneficial.

“He was enjoyable,” Sears said.

Eymard explained, “It was fun. I couldn’t do it without him.”

Sears’ advice for his younger team members is to make a lot of friends through the activity.

“Stay social,” Sears said. “Your competitors give you a lot of advice. It makes meets a lot more enjoyable.”
