Elwayne Rush Sr.


Elwayne Rush Sr., 47, of Poplar died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at the Poplar Hospital. He was born to Elmer Rush and Clara Bow on Feb. 23, 1974, but was raised with by Josephine Black Dog. He was raised in Brockton and also attended and graduated from Brockton High School. One of his biggest memories was going to state in 1992 with the Warriors ball team. He also excelled in cross country, which he also went to state in previous years. After graduation, he did firefighting which took him on many adventures and traveling. He had a big heart with a great sense of humor with his jokes and teasing people. There was never a dull moment when he was around. Family was always most important to him. He is survived by his children, Lavael Shayne of Missoula, Elwade Blake of Brockton, Kobe Rush of Fort Kipp, Elwayne Jr. of Lawton, Okla., and Sundown, Daylen and Eljay of Poplar; sisters, Karla Ricker, Vernita Bear, Roberta Bird, Kae Roberts, Gina Spotted Bird, Larissa Spotted Bird, Lynette Long Hair, Bernadette Wind, Mary Wetsit and Valerie Todd; brothers, Theo Crowe, Myron Spotted Bird, Bear Roberts and Dean Necklace; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Laila Christian; sisters, Wilma Bear, Glenda Crawford, Connie Bear and Carlene Spotted Bird; and brothers, Kenny Spotted Bird, Merlin Yellow Owl, Gerald “Ponce” Bear and Lyle Bear. His funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 20, at the James Black Dog Center in Fort Kipp. Interment was at the Fort Kipp Cemetery.
