Area students received a touch of the holiday season a little early on Thursday, Dec. 9, when the Love Has No Color organization delivered gifts throughout the Fort Peck Reservation.

Love Has No Color, featuring chiropractors throughout the country, is a partnership with the Assiniboine/ Sioux tribes with the goal of restoring health, dignities, cultural identity, traditional values and hope.

Dr. Alicia Londos of Chicago explains that Love Has No Color comes to the Fort Peck Reservation twice a year. The group provides gifts to students one day during the winter and then holds a fun day during the summer.

“Every single kid on the reservation will receive one present,” she said.

She explained that fundraisers and other donations make the giving of presents possible.

The group stopped at schools in Frazer, Wolf Point, Poplar and Brockton on Thursday.

“We’re here to help restore hope, health and dignity to these areas,” Dr. Aaron Londos of Chicago said.

Students were delighted to receive the surprised gift that came from the organization’s “hard working elves.”

“I’m happy that the kids are being blessed,” Northside Principal Georgie Gourneau said. “I appreciate the effort they put in all year.”

Kenny Smoker, director of the Health Promotion/Disease Prevention program in Fort Peck, has been partnering with Love Has No Color for the past 10 years.

“It’s a lot of gifts for a lot of children,” Smoker said. “It brings out the best for our children and our community.”

Smoker said that it was certainly a fun time for the children.

“It’s always exciting when you see the kids excited,” Smoker said. “It’s critical that they can see the people’s great spirit and see their love.”

Especially with the economic challenges that COVID created for some people, it’s important that all families can celebrate the holidays in some fashion.

“Everybody needs to witness this. As a parent or child, it’s nice to get a gift from Santa,” Smoker said.
