Officials Plan Ahead For Snow Removal

As the calendar turns to December, thoughts of snow storms and blizzards begin to creep into our minds.

When snow removal from roads is necessary, the city of Wolf Point has a policy it follows to best serve the community.

“The ambulance route is the most important,” Ward Smith, Wolf Point’s director of public works, said. “We make sure the main arteries like Fourth Avenue are open for ambulances.”

After that, the crew tackles the roads by the schools and then other well traveled streets.

“It’s kind of an ongoing thing,” Smith explained.

The city crews usually start working at 7 a.m. and go until about 3:30 p.m.

“When we have to get out, they can start earlier,” Smith said. “We appreciate it when people move vehicles when we are working with the snow.”

Smith said there are funds in the budget if city works need to work during weekends if it’s vital.

He noted the state highway department covers some areas including the underpass.

Roosevelt County Gary Macdonald said the county’s policy is to clear school bus routes first.
