Elks Hoop Shoot

Wolf Point Elks Lodge No. 1764 held the annual hoop shoot free throw contest for youth ages 8 to 13 in the Wolf Point High School gym Saturday, Nov. 6. Newly minted Wolf Point Elks Hoop Shoot championship are (from left to right): Braxton Crawford, boys’ ages 8-9, Poplar Elementary; Sebastian McGowan, boys’ 12-13, Poplar Middle School; Andrew Williamson, boys’ 10-11, Northside Elementary; Ryan Smith, girls’ 10-12, Northside; Renee’ Smith, girls’ 12-13, Wolf Point Junior High. There were no girls’ 8-9 contestants. The five local champions will compete at the district hoop shoot in Glendive during January. Winners could advance to a national championship in Chicago in April. Hoop Shoot began 75 years ago as a local Elks contest in Corvales, Ore. This year is the 50th for national Hoop Shoot competition.
