Basketball, Family Brings  Benson To Wolf Point Basketball, Family Brings  Benson To Wolf Point

Wolf Point’s new head girls basketball coach said his family’s decision to relocate was prompted by a convergence of surprises. Frank Benson said that he hadn’t planned on relocating when contacted by the district, but reconsidered after son Juliun Benson expressed an interest in playing basketball in 2021-22 with a group of Wolf Point students. Juliun Benson is a junior at WPHS this year.

Coach Benson, who moved to town with his wife, Amy, also a new teacher in Wolf Point (at Southside), has served at a number of Hi-Line schools and athletic programs. He began his career in Dodson in 2005 and went on to coach and teach in Hinsdale, Rocky Boy and Harlem before returning as head boys’ basketball coach, athletic director, JH boys’ football (co-op with Malta) and PE teacher at Dodson from 2016-2020.

At Wolf Point, he’ll also being wearing many hats. He is currently teaching PE at Northside as well as coaching girls’ varsity basketball and assisting with the varsity football squad.

Benson received his bachelor’s degree in K-12 education and health and physical education with a minor in coaching from Montana State University - Northern in 2005. He also served six years after high school with the National Guard.

“He’s very likable and a good coach,” said Superintendent Loverty Erickson, “We’re really looking forward to having him here.”
