The Wolf Point Wolves earned a divisional berth by knocking off Poplar in straight sets during the District 2B volleyball tournament in Wolf Point on Friday, Oct. 29.

The Wolves captured a 251, 25-12, 25-18, opening-round victory.

After kills by Sierra Hamilton led the Wolves to a quick 3-0 lead in the first set, Poplar scored on a kill by Kylie Gourneau. Wolf Point then ran out to a 10-1 lead behind Hamilton’s strong net play.

Four aces by J’Elle Garfield and a kill by Jaylee Azure put the margin at 17-1.

Another kill by Hamilton and another ace by Garfield produced a 21-1 margin.

Kills by Azure, Garfield and Hamilton down the stretch put the score at 25-1 to end the first set.

Poplar gained a 4-3 advantage in the second set on a kill by Madison Dehner. The net play of Kaleah Miller-Toves and Adeia Erickson put Wolf Point up by a 12-5 margin.

An ace by Hamyanie Campbell and an ace by Katelyn MacDonald put the Wolves up by a 21-8 score. Mahala MacDonald had a tip down the stretch for a 25-12 victory.

After three aces by Azalei Ackerman put the Wolves ahead 8-1 in the third set, Poplar fought back to get back into the game. Kills by Morgen Nordwick and Kessee Erickson along with aces by Gourneau pulled the Indians to 10-6. A block by Kessee Erickson got Poplar as close as 10-8.

The strong serving of Hamilton put the Wolves up by a 14-8 advantage. A kill by Trinniti Garrett and a spike by A. Erickson increased the margin to 17-12.

The serving of Campbell and net play of Garfield led the Wolves to a 24-18 lead. A spike by Azure ended the match.

Hamilton led the Wolves with 11 kills and two blocks. MacDonald finished with six digs.

Garfield served seven aces. Kylie Rodenberg had 23 assists.

Poplar’s Nordwick finished with six kills and four digs. Erickson had two blocks.

EmmaRae Martell accounted for eight assists. Gourneau served two aces.
