In a battle of two young, talented squads, Bainville emerged with a three-set victory over Lustre Christian to qualify for the district volleyball tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

The Bulldogs downed Lustre, 25-16, 25-9, 25-9, in the tournament “play-in” match held in Bainville.

Bainville led by only an 8-5 margin in the first set until aces by Elsie Wilson and Kendra Romo along with kills by Miah Pippenger and Brecklyn Pippenger increased the advantage to 15-7.

A hit by Sarah Dahl helped the Lions close the margin to 15-9. A kill by Alexa Reddig kept Lustre close at 18-12.

After a tip by Wilson and an ace by Kaitlyn Adkins, Lustre’s Reddig accounted for a kill and an ace for a 20-14 score.

Lakyn Rabbe led the Bulldogs to a 24-16 lead and Kendra Romo served an ace for the 25-16 final.

The hard serving of Hallie Iversen put the Bulldogs up 11-4 in the second set. Kills by Wilson and Rabbe along with aces by Adkins increased the margin to 18-5.

Lustre fought back to 18-9 on a block by Grace Brown and a serve by Dahl.

The Bulldogs accounted for the final seven points of the second set. A pair of aces by Rabbe and kills by Kendra Romo and M. Pippenger highlighted the streak.

The net play of Reddig kept the Lions close early in the third set, but kills by Wilson put Bainville ahead by a 12-9 margin. Four aces by Rabbe led the way as the Bulldogs increased the gap to 19-9.

Bainville closed out the match on the net play of Wilson and serving of Rabbe.

Iverson, Adkins and Rabbe each finished with five aces to lead the Bulldogs.

B. Pippenger scored six kills.
