Whether it’s through clubs or sports, Wolf Point High School senior Ethan Blount serves as a leader for fellow students.

Blount is the chairman of both the Wolf People organization and Nakona Dakota Oyate Youth Council.

He explains his role includes running meetings and organizing events such as the Creator’s Games, the Native American Week pow-wow or delivering care packages to those in need.

Blount also enjoys business competitions through the groups. Last year, Wolf People earned the national title as the best chapter for American Indigenous Business Leaders.

He says he tries his best to serve as a positive role model at the school and community.

“My goal is to get good grades and try to be here every day,” Blount said.

In sports, Blount is part of Wolf Point’s cross-country, basketball and track programs.

“We had an amazing season,” Blount said of the recently completed cross-country campaign. “We wanted to bring home a plaque from state, but overall it was a great season.”

He wishes more Wolf Point students would compete in cross country, but he feels some don’t like to do so much running.

“I like running,” Blount said. “It helps you clear your mind.”

His goal for the upcoming basketball season is to be successful at the district and divisional tournaments.

The senior said that it’s fun being coached by his father, Troy, during basketball season.

Blount’s advice for his teammates is “Go hard in everything, never give up.”

He hopes to compete in cross-country or track at the collegiate level. A possible major is accounting.
