Funeral Held For Poplar Student

Funeral services for Elijah Grey Bear, 16, were held at Poplar High School on Monday, Oct. 25.

Poplar High School Principal Frank Gourneau III wrote in a letter to the community last week, “This loss is sure to raise emotions, concerns and questions for our entire school, especially our students. The staff at Poplar High School is committed to addressing the needs of students, parents and staff at times like this. At Poplar High School, we have counselors available for any student who may need or want assistance surrounding this loss.”

Gourneau said resources will be available throughout the upcoming weeks. He said parents should also feel free to utilize these resources. “We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child as you need.”

Federal Bureau of Investigation public affairs specialist Sandra Baker reports that the FBI is investigating the death of a juvenile male in Poplar on Oct. 17, on the Fort Peck Reservation. The Fort Peck Tribal Law Enforcement and the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the case.

Baker said there is no threat to public safety in the case.
