The Wolf Point boys’ cross-country team is aiming to bring back a team trophy from the Class B state meet scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 23, in Missoula.

“I want all of them to place and be consistent,” Wolf Point Coach Stacey Summers said. “It can be anybody’s race on that day.”

Wolf Point is ranked as the third top Class B boys’ squad entering the race. Ranked ahead of the Wolves are St. Ignatius and Glasgow. Also expected to be in the team battle are Bigfork and defending state champion Lincoln County.

The only time that Wolf Point’s boys have brought home a team trophy from the state meet was in the 19961997 school year when the Wolves placed second.

“If they run the way they are capable, I believe they could take first,” Coach Summers said. Wolf Point’s sophomore Peyton Summers has the seventh best time in Class B.

“Hopefully, I can go out and get a team trophy,” Summers said.

Kholby Spotted Wolf, a senior, ranks 13th in the state. Ethan Blount, a senior, ranks 20th in the state.

“We could place if we run our best,” Blount said of the

team.

Kelby Talks Different and Rebel Mays are ranked in the top 60.

“A lot will depend on our fourth and fifth runners,” Coach Summers said.

Poplar’s Jace Frederick is ranked 39th in the state.

In the girls’ division, Poplar’s Jazmin Gorder ranks sixth in Class B. Poplar’s Reinita Irizarry is ranked 20th. Glasgow’s Iris McKean is ranked third in the state.

Wolf Point’s girls are led by Piper Ruffing and Hamyanie Campbell.

Ruffing said her goal at the state meet is to run in the course in 22:50 and to place in the top 30.

With Campbell also involved in volleyball, Ruffing is the only girl at Wolf Point’s cross-country practices.

“I wish we had more people with a desire to run,” she said. “The boys really push me though. They are always there to support me and I’m there to support them.”
