The Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department conducted a small live action burn Oct. 16 to demonstrate the impact of fighting fire with fire. Training officer Weyrauch conducted the exercise and secretary/treasurer Justin Parker provided the use of his property.

Chief Clint Bushman said that training is an important element in keeping the community safe.

“We turned a small controlled burn into a live fire demonstration with four firefighters including myself,” said Bushman. “Training is a huge part of what we do as volunteers and sacrifice our own personal time to learn anything we can.”

Bushman said the department took advantage of a short window in area burn bans due to recent precipitation.

“We were fortunate enough to be able to do this while the burn ban was lifted for three days last week ending Saturday at midnight,” he said. “After the previous moisture we had from the snowstorm, county fire warden Mike Olson and other chiefs in the county felt we could lift the ban for a short amount of time for the many requests we’ve had.”

To check for permission to burn, call Roosevelt County Dispatch at 406-653-6240.
