Montana Governor Announces Emergency Rule To Help Hospitals
Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte has announced the Department of Public Health and Human Services has issued an emergency rule to ease strain on hospital capacity across the state.
“As our hospitals and health care workers continue to work around-the-clock to deliver life-saving care to Montanans, this new tool will help reduce the burdens our providers face,” Gianforte said. “We will continue to work with hospitals and providers to support their ongoing response.”
The temporary emergency rule waives regulations to make it easier for hospitals to transfer certain patients to other health care facilities, freeing up needed hospital beds.

Roosevelt County Health Department received the first positive Delta variant report for a Roosevelt County COVID-19 case on Aug. 26. Delta is highly transmissable and is currently the most common COVID-19 variant circulating in the United States.
Area Statistics
As of Sunday, Sept. 19, Roosevelt County has 39 active cases and four current hospitalizations. There have been 57 COVID-related deaths reported in the county. According to the state, there have been 1,816 total cases in Roosevelt County.
As of Monday, Sept. 20, Valley County’s active count was 28 cases. There have been 996 total cases and 19 reported COVID-reported deaths.
Daniels County had five active cases as of Monday, Sept. 20. The county has 204 recovered cases and 217 cumulative cases. Eight deaths have occurred due to COVID-19 and/or complications.
In McCone County, there are three active cases as of Monday, Sept. 20. There are 206 recovered cases. There have been two COVID-related deaths in the county.
Phillips County had 13 active cases as of Wednesday, Sept. 15. There have been 563 recovered cases and 18 COVID-related deaths.
For Richland County, there are 70 active cases and 1,384 recovered cases as of Wednesday, Sept. 15. Total COVID-related deaths are 18. There have been 1,472 total cases.
Statewide According to Montana health officials, the state’s total number of known cases now stands at 141,339 since the start of the pandemic. There have been 1,747,663 tests conducted.
Around the state, there are 9,721 active cases. There are 358 active hospitalizations. By Monday, Sept. 20, a total of 1,887 deaths have been reported statewide. A total of 129,731 people have recovered.
Though there is no state mask mandate, local jurisdictions may still choose to implement their own mask requirements. Gov. Gianforte emphasized how providing incentives and encouraging personal responsibility are more effective than imposing unenforceable government mandates.
Vaccine Doses
In Roosevelt County, 7,176 total doses have been administered. There have been 3,471 or 41 percent fully immunizations.
As of Monday, Sept. 20, 981,968 total doses have been administered in Montana. There are 479,737 or 52 percent fully immunized Montanans.
