Grant Could Improve Housing In Wolf Point

If the City of Wolf Point is approved, a grant could translate into more housing in the community.

A public meeting took place last week regarding the city applying to the Montana Department of Commerce for a Community Development Block Grant.

“We’re putting the application together for the city through our housing program,” Tori Matejovsky, executive director of the Great Northern Development Corporation, said.

The Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act allocated additional Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus funds to each state though the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Montana received $10,174,175 in funds for the program. The Montana Department of Commerce is administering the funds.

Matejovsky said the funds have the potential to create some additional housing for moderate income individuals.

“We do have a housing need as far as affordable, living units,” Matejovsky said. “It’s a start.”

Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak said, “It will be exciting if we can do that.”

No matching funds are required to receive the funds. Applications are due on Oct. 7.

Eligible projects include housing and homelessness assistance projects such as acquisition or conversion of a property to affordable and to respond to overcrowding.
