Chamber, NEMHS Plan Holiday Events

Beth Pickthorn, executive director of the NEMHS Charitable Foundation, discussed plans for the next Spikes and Spurs Gala during the Wolf Point Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture’s board meeting Tuesday, Sept. 7.

“We are having the gala again in Wolf Point,” Pickthorn said. She noted the event will take place at the Wolf Point Elks Event Center. Organizers felt that December would be a better time for the celebration rather than in the fall.

Because of a conflict with a home basketball game Friday, Dec. 3, Pickthorn said the foundation board was hoping the gala could take place on Saturday, Dec. 4, but the foundation was concerned about conflicting with the chamber’s activities.

Chamber board members agreed to move the Christmas stroll to Friday, Dec. 3.

“I’m thinking we can leave the lights on Friday and Saturday and see how it goes,” chamber president Jeff Presser said.

The Festival of Trees will take place on Friday, Dec. 3, in the basement of the Wolf Point Elks Event Center.

Board member Jerald Petersen suggested that a celebration committee be formed regarding the stampede’s 100th anniversary.

“It’s coming up in two years,” Petersen said.

He noted that the Stampede committee already has its hands full with organizing the large annual event and that an added committee will need to be formed to plan additional fun for the 100th celebration.

“There are some things that we need to do planning on,” Petersen said. “I think it’s time to put something together.”

Clint Long said there is consideration of adding new restrooms at the Stampede grounds.

An After Hours event will take place in the Great Northern Development Corp.’s office sometime during the winter. The organization features new meeting rooms.
