Ernie Hoch

Ernie Lee Hoch went to his rest on April 14, 2021.

He was an avid gardener. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t get to grow. His pride and joy was his private iris garden with 450 varieties of iris, which 41 were his own creations and one was our son’s creation. He had an iris that he named for his mother who went on before him called Lena Pearl. He named an iris after his eldest daughter, Eliane Audra, and also named an iris after his two granddaughters, Emily Wonders and Emilia Grace.

He also developed the first true green iris that will be on display at the Los Cruces, N.M., in the spring of 2022 at the Iris convention. The iris society gave us the name Green Matrix. According to family members, the iris was his grandmother’s favorite flower. We sold many iris through the web all over the United States through the website echoiris.com. Ernie’s legacy will be continued as the iris garden is being moved to Texas.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carla of Chewelah, Wash.; his children, Eliane Audra of Spokane, Wash., Elondra Jenkins (Kevin) and grandchildren Emily and Johnathan of Elk, Wash., Evan of Spokane Valley, Wash., Erin (Tyler) and granddaughter Emilia of Spokane, Wash.; brothers, Eric and Everyl of North Dakota, Ellery of Wolf Point, Mont., Emory of Switzerland, Eli and Lorita of Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The celebration of life service will be held on July 11 at the Chewelah Senior Center in Chewelah, Wash., starting at 10 a.m. and going all day. That would have been Ernie and Carla’s 43rd wedding anniversary.

Anyone wishing to send cards are asked to send them to PO Box 448, Chewelah, Wash. Flowers can be sent to 2581-B Egger Farm Way, Chewelah, WA 99109 or the day of the service to 302 E Main, Chewelah, WA 99109.
