Area Municipalities Receive Federal ARPA Funding

Wolf Point and Culbertson are two of the 34 Montana communities that are receiving federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. Communities are receiving a total of $14 million.

Wolf Point will receive $348,674.68 in federal funding.

Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak said the amount is the first half of $700,000 that the city will receive. These funds have not been allocated yet. The city will also receive about $400,000 to $500,000 in funding that will be used for the sewer project.

Culbertson will receive $101,537.13. The funds will likely be spent for a water main project when the U.S. Highway 2 project takes place.

“The federal funds we’re distributing give local governments the authority to address the unique needs of their communities,” Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte said. “Cities and towns may use these funds to assist residents, small businesses, and industries impacted by the pandemic or to invest in infrastructure, including water, sewer, or broadband.”

Other eastern Montana communities receiving funds include Malta with $237,686.29, Circle with $77,270.41, Plentywood with $221,210.45, Richey with $21,840.06, Fort Peck with $30,525, Havre with $1,250,503, Saco with $23,883.58, Forsyth with $226,063.80 and Glendive with $627,103.54.

Cities and towns should receive the funds by this week.

Local governments typically serving a population under 50,000 are eligible for funding through the federal Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, and funding allocations are determined by population.

This is the first in a series of disbursements to towns and cities that will be made by the state by June 30. Funding amounts were based on criteria outlined by the U.S. Department of Treasury.
