After serving as a cheerleader for the Wolf Point Wolves during the past four years, Gracie Ferdina will cheer on a bigger stage this summer.

Ferdina, a senior at Wolf Point High School, is one of 16 students who will serve as a cheerleader for the East team in the Montana East-West Shrine football game on June 19.

The 74th contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Wendy’s Field, Daylis Stadium in Billings. The game features players from each of the Montana High School Association’s four classes.

“I thought it would be good exposure to meet other cheerleaders,” Ferdina said of why she wanted to cheer at the game.

She was excited when she found out that she was selected. Other cheerleaders chosen from Eastern Montana included Nikaylee Corbiridge of Glendive, Brianna Rainey of Forsyth, Nyla Redding of Forsyth, Hannah Vandall of Sidney and Cindy Weir of Colstrip.

As one of the senior leaders on this year’s Wolf Point squad, Ferdina said she enjoys stunting the best. “It’s cool to do that in front of the crowd.”

One of the highlights of her cheerleading career was performing at the state girls’ basketball tournament as a sophomore. “Not a lot of people get to do that,” she noted.

She also enjoyed this year’s cheerleading squad because of the large turnout including many seniors.

Ferdina, who ranks in the top 10 for her class, plans to attend either MSU - Billings or MSU - Bozeman. She is expecting to major in business.

Cheerleading might be a part of her collegiate career.

“I’ve thought about it,” Ferdina said. “If I cheer, I probably will go to Bozeman and cheer for the Cats.”
