After not being able to compete last year because of COVID, the Wolf Point Wolves are looking for a successful tennis season in 2021.

“The weather has been unusually great,” coach Dan Horsmon said. “Most seasons, we have to shovel snow. The girls are learning fast and will be competitive this year.”

Returning letterwinners for the Wolves include two seniors, Demi Kegley and Angelica Sutton.

Currently, the squad consists of 12 girls.

Serenity Tibbets Ross is another player with playing experience.

“It is great to have Coach Paulson come back to assist,” Horsmon said. “She is such a great coach and was a former state placer in tennis.”

Horsmon said the team’s strengths are being coachable and willing to learn.

“Since we didn’t have a season last year, all aspects of the game need work from ground strokes to serving,” Horsmon said. Baker is probably the team to beat in the division. At the state level, Fairfield, Townsend, Chinook and Missoula Loyola are expected to be strong.

“My goal for the girls is to be competitive and work hard every day and get as many girls as possible to qualify for state,” he said.

As far as long-term goals, Horsmon would love to see larger turnouts.

“Other schools in the area have high turnouts in their spring sports, it would be great for our students to participate more and develop our programs and help keep Wolves’ pride building,” he said.

“For tennis, I would love to have girls play year round because I know for a fact we can be a force at state every year,” Horsmon said. “I would love to hang a state championship banner in the gym for tennis.”
