Culbertson’s Legion Park Case Pending

District Court Judge David Cybulski ruled Feb. 18 that the Town of Culbertson and Thomas Mann Post 81 of the American Legion may resume administering easement- based access to the 40-acre Legion Park near the Missouri River. According to Culberton’s Peter A. Olson, the status of park access is pending some final hurdles holding up public use of the area.

Access to the park has been blocked for years by the Knudsen Family Limited Partnership, who have prevented use by scouting groups and the public. Miles and Rhonda Knudsen are listed as registered agents for the partnership. The town and legion filed the lawsuit in 2016.

Olson told the Northern Plains Independent that collateral negotiations regarding cleanup and other plans at the park are currently underway. Once the final negotiations conclude, said Olson, a 30-day waiting period will begin, providing the
