Wolf Point Boys Fall To Harlem


Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team forced an overtime period but was eliminated by Harlem, 73-66, at the District 2B tournament held in Wolf Point on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The Wolves trailed 64-61 with only 31 seconds remaining in regulation, but Antone Manning hit a free throw with 14 seconds left. After the second free throw was missed, Kraven Silk came down with the rebound. The play resulted in two more free throws by Manning for a 64-64 deadlock with 10 seconds left.
Harlem missed on a shot attempt at the buzzer so the loser-out contest went into overtime.
The Wolves, playing without two starters because of fouls, fell behind by a 69-64 margin in the extra period. Silk hit a free throw to cut the gap to 69-65 with 1:51 remaining.
Harlem’s R.J. Ramone connected on a baseline shot with 1:21 left, but Silk hit another free throw for a 73-66 game with 1:07 remaining. The Wolves, however, couldn’t get any closer.
Manning led the Wolves with 26 points. Also reaching double figures were Kelby Bauer with 13 and Zander Ackerman with 12 points. Also scoring were Gaige Bushman with eight and Silk with seven.
Leading the Wildcats were Tyler Cichosz with 23, Ramone with 19 and Daniel Lawrence with 14 points.
Harlem accounted for the first quarter’s final 10 points to take a 16-12 advantage. The Wolves struck for the last six points of the second period on four points by Ackerman and a pull-up jumper by Bauer for a 26-26 deadlock.
Wolf Point fell behind by seven points in the third quarter and trailed 46-39 at the end of the period.
The Wolves opened the fourth quarter with eighth of the first 10 points on two free tosses by Bushman, a three-pointer by Manning and a three-pointer by Bauer to pull to 48-47.
A pair of free throws by Manning tied the game, 49-49, with 5:37 remaining.
Wolf Point’s final lead of the game came when a drive by Manning put the score at 60-59 with 1:58 left. Harlem then scored five of the next six points.
Malta outscored Glasgow, 48-38, in the district tournament’s championship game.
The Mustangs led 23-17 at the half and 30-23 after three quarters.
Kooper Oxarant scored 17 points and Connor Tuss added 10 points to lead Malta.
