Wrestlers Compete in Forsyth, Baker

Wolf Point’s wrestlers competed in Forsyth on Friday, Jan. 8, and Baker on Saturday, Jan. 9, Samantha Reed went 1-2 on the weekend. She beat a girl from Harlem, lost to a boy from Forsyth and lost to a girl from Baker.

“Sam did a good job this weekend and got the weight class win over the Harlem girl,” Coach Scott Vandall said. “She gave up about 8 pounds to the girl from Baker. She did great that match giving up weight. We had her on her back but just couldn’t hold her.”

Xavier Kemp went 1-3 on the weekend. He wrestled two Broadus wrestlers both days. He got some sweet revenge on winning an exciting match. Kemp had four matches that went three rounds. “They were very close and exciting matches to watch,” Vandall said.

Joli Beston had a record of 0-2. “She wrestled well, she got caught by the girl from Baker. She fought off her back for a long time,” Vandall said.

Jordan Davis went 0-3. He lost one to his teammate Josh Bushman. “He’s been right in most of his matches, he wrestles hard,” Vandall said. “He is just matched by seniors at this moment. He is picking up things. If we can get him in a lower weight class, he will be OK.”

Josh Bushman posted a 1-3 record. “He’s knocking off some rust, he just got back with us from being out with a sickness so we’re happy to have him back,” Vandall said, Chance Smith went 2-2 on the weekend. He beat a wrestler from Broadus both days. He lost a match to Charlie Page and lost another to a wrestler from Baker. “Chance has shown us a lot. He has a great ability to through kids. If we can keep him on his feet he will surprise some kids,” Vandall said.

Charlie Page had a record of 1-3. “Charlie is learning every time he steps out. We trying to get him down to 205,” Vandall said.

The coach added, “All in all, the kids are doing well. We have a lot of freshman on the team. We’re right in there in a lot of these matches.”

The Wolves will compete in Circle on Friday, Jan. 15. “We will keep making strides through out the year getting better with each match and improving our mind sets. We believe good things will happen for us at the right time,” Vandall said.
